There are several options: freelancing, self-employment, full- or part-time employment (where you receive social security contributions from an employer), qualification in household-related services, and professional training as a home economist.
There are many advantages: Working for a service company offers you flexibility, paid holiday leave, payment of at least minimum wage and job security. If you fall ill or have an accident, you have insurance coverage, you’re covered by the social security system and you are also entitled to a higher pension.
Furthermore, in Germany, illegal employment is punishable by law, and perpetrators can incur hefty fines or even be sent to prison. This means you’re also at risk for fraud.
The campaign is intended to showcase the diversity and attractiveness of household-related services. It highlights the fact that these services are rewarding in every way, including financially, and offer many opportunities for personal and professional development.

Many people think household-related services are nothing more than cleaning. However, this perception is outdated and undermines the many different tasks and activities that these services actually encompass. See for yourself.
The campaign was launched by the Competence Centre for the Professionalisation and Quality Assurance of Household-related Services (PQHD). The PQHD Competence Centre is funded by the German Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth. The German Home Economics Council (Deutscher Hauswirtschaftsrat) has also joined the campaign and oversees its management.
The German Home Economics Council (Deutscher Hauswirtschaftsrat) is the political lobby for home economics and serves as a liaison for politics and society. The Council advocates for sustainable, quality-oriented household consulting, care and support for the population, and raises awareness about the importance of home economics.
